Joksimovic, Takahara discuss continuation of development cooperation

Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic spoke today with Ambassador of Japan in Serbia Juichi Takahara about cooperation of the two countries, the process of European integration of Serbia, the reforms that are being implemented, the opportunities in the region and other topical issues.

Joksimovic expressed gratitude to the Japanese Ambassador on the continued assistance of Japan to Serbia, which was especially evident during the major disasters and the migrant crisis.

This is an example that illustrates that Japan is among the most important and most visible partners of our country, especially when donor and development assistance is taken into account.

Joksimovic informed Takahara about the latest public opinion survey in which Serbian citizens recognize Japan as one of the most important donors and expect that, in addition to the major projects it has supported, it will continue its visible presence in Serbia through projects beneficial to ordinary citizens.

The Ambassador confirmed that Japan supports Serbia's accession to the European Union and reforms that are being implemented. He believes that European standards provide international investors with business security, which is an important condition for development, and believes that Serbia is the most important country of this part of Europe in terms of total potentials and resources.

Joksimovic and Takahara assessed that relations between the two countries are at a high level and that there is a possibility for their strengthening.

They made a special reference to important and large infrastructure projects financed from Japanese development assistance funds and a future project to support the reconstruction of small and medium enterprises, primarily at the local and regional levels.
