Coordination body for EU accession process

Subsequent phase of the Stabilisation and Association Process, which will involve implementation of the SAP, preparation for and negotiation of EU membership, implies complex commitments of the state pursuing this direction and has to be supported by adequate coordination mechanism. Government has consequently, at its session of 4 October 2007, adopted the Information on need to establish new coordination bodies for EU accession process.

The creation of new coordination structures of Serbian institutions is based, among other, upon the EU negotiation experiences, best practices of the new EU member states, size and capacity of Serbian administration.

With a view to realize the required degree of coordination and process control, the existing bodies will be redefined and the following new ones established:

Coordination body for EU accession process – the body considering all issues relating to European integrations and coordinating the activities of public administration. This body was established pursuant to the Government Decision of 18 October 2007 and its members are:

  1. Bozidar Djelic, Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Coordination Body
  2. VukJeremic, Foreign Minister
  3. Dragan Jocic, Minister of Interior
  4. Mirko Cvetkovic, Minister of Finance
  5. Mladjan Dinkic, Minister of Economy and Regional Development
  6. Dusan Petrovic, Minister of Justice
  7. Slobodan Milosavljevic, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management
  8. Predrag Bubalo, Minister of Trade and Services.

Tanja Miscevic, Director of the European Integration Office, participates in the activities of this Coordination body. Other Government members may attend the sessions and take part in the activities of this body, if the issues within their scope of work are discussed.

  • Expert group of the Coordination body – headed by the Director of the European Integration Office and comprising of heads of working groups for negotiations; it will be main body for horizontal coordination of accession process.
  • Expert Subgroups /35/ - working groups for negotiations as key mechanism for coordination of various areas of the EU acquis, whose division, competence and composition substantially match the negotiation chapters.
